Mildred the Marmot Comes to Tillingham

On Wednesday 1st April, something rather special arrives at Tillingham.

Local author Milly Voice joins us for two book readings of her new children’s story Mildred the Marmot and the Mad Mountain March. A tale of courage, determination and believing in yourself – told through the adventures of the fastest marmot on the mountain.

When Mildred’s dad suggests she enter the legendary Mad Mountain March race, she isn’t sure she’s ready. What if she isn’t fast enough? What if she fails? Racing against speedy hares, daring deer and lightning-quick stoats, Mildred discovers the real secret to success isn’t about winning – it’s about having the courage to try.

Milly will read the story twice during the afternoon, with time afterwards for book signing and meeting Mildred herself (in life-size cut-out form, of course).

Reading times:
12:00 – 12:30
13:00 – 13:30

Alongside the readings there’ll be plenty for young explorers to enjoy around the estate:

– Colouring sheets and crayons
– A Tillingham treasure hunt through the grounds
– Meet our resident goats – Gary, Nigel and Roger
– Books available to buy and sign

And because no adventure is complete without something delicious…

The kitchen will be serving a special Marmot Margherita pizza, created just for the occasion, alongside mini egg ice cream – a small seasonal treat for post-treasure-hunt celebrations.

About the author

Milly Voice is a local author, long-distance mountain runner, presenter and teacher with a passion for helping people find their voice and build resilience. In 2014 she ran the OCC – a 53km mountain race – finishing in the Top Ten Female category and sparking a love of endurance running.

Alongside her running, Milly has taught in schools in both the UK and Switzerland, helping children grow in confidence and discover the courage to speak up and try new things. Having once found public speaking nerve-wracking herself, she knows how powerful it can be to step forward and find your voice.

Whether on a mountain trail, a stage, or in a classroom, Milly believes courage grows with practice — and that sometimes the bravest thing you can do is simply start.

A gentle afternoon of stories, goats, treasure hunting and a little marmot-inspired fun in the countryside.

Children welcome. Families encouraged. Curiosity essential.
